What is an individual therapy retreat? How is it different from a group retreat experience?

Have you ever attended a group retreat and felt like you could have had more insight and gone deeper with the process—gotten more value overall—if you had focused individual attention, or if you weren’t distracted by other people and the anxiety you get from interacting with them?

Don’t get me wrong, classic group healing retreats have their own very real and wondrous benefits, but they also have their downsides. While you might enjoy some anonymity within a group, you could also accidentally be distracted from your inner work by their presence, tempted by tracking social dynamics, comparing yourself, or managing all the old wounds that resurface from school day group projects.

Ever head off to a retreat that you hope will be sweetly rejuvenating, and then get a pang of dread that you’re going to have an incompatible roommate?

Or that there will be one person in the larger group that sucks all the juice out of the room?

Or that you might need to fall apart completely, but if other people are around you aren’t likely to?

None of that can happen with an individual therapy retreat.

I offer individual therapy retreats because I want to make sure people have the option to choose a truly expansive therapeutic container that makes space for deep-diving their process. It’s not the same as hour-long sessions, which are certainly beneficial in their own ways.

Individual therapy retreats, also called therapeutic intensives, are entirely customizable at Growth Point Cottage. Because we collaborate to create the itinerary that serves each patient’s individual healing process, what you get are deep insights and a transformation, within a few days instead of a few years.

Imagine how it’s going to feel to blend travel, relaxation, deep emotional healing, nature, and rest all into one adventure.

Pretty darn good. Trips like these are honestly life-changing.

Where it all happens…

In the gorgeous mountains of Western North Carolina, in a hundred-year-old cottage. Yep. It’s just as dreamy as it sounds. It’s freshly renovated, and surrounded by views of ancient mountain ridges near and far. Up close, you walk past bunnies as butterflies glide by. Far off, you can hear cows mooing (and, ok, some distant lawn mowers…this is real life) while you gaze at layers upon  layers of soft, rolling peaks and valleys  draped in mist.

We can sit on a blanket in the grass or stroll down the gravel road, optionally entering the private forest for sessions. We can be cozy in the luxurious office cottage if that’s what’s right for you. You can opt for solo hikes, or take your breaks on the quaint main street of Marshall, NC.

The scenic, rural mountain location sets the tone for your return to your true, joyous and worthy nature. You can make use of all the quiet to listen to your truth, and you can use the companionate presence of a therapist to say it out loud and consolidate your growth with a witness.

Sure, you could travel solo or get out of town for a weekend, or invest in a new wardrobe.

Or you could give yourself what you really need: an opportunity to step out of your life long enough to take a look at it and figure out what you’re ready to change, anchored by the insights of a licensed counselor. You can address what’s been bothering you all this time and go forward in life with a new understanding of your past.
